Catching Up With Great Lakes Grand Prix Race Director Scott Miller
The second-year race director for the Great Lakes Grand Prix in Michigan City, Ind., Scott Miller attended his first Race World Offshore Key West World Championships last week. Of course, the timing of his visit was not accidental as Race World Offshore, which produces the Key West event, will produce the XINSURANCE-backed Michigan City event in 2025. Race World Offshore is an American Power Boat Association member-organization, which makes the Great Lakes Grand Prix eligible for inclusion in next year’s APBA Offshore National Championship Series.

Miller has been involved with the Michigan City races for 16 years, so he’s witnessed competitive offshore racing. But his Key West experience was an eye-opener.
“This was my first time here, but I can honestly say that as long as it’s within my power it will not be my last time here,” he said. “I’m excited for our event to be part of Race World Offshore. Everyone involved is excited about it.”

Between the start of the 2025 season in May and his own group’s races on Lake Michigan in August, Miller plans to attend as many events as possible to “see how their races are run and get familiar with their safety programs.” But his larger mission, he explained, is getting to know as many racers as he can before the first green flag flies in Michigan City.
“Every race—every person—has a different personality,” he explained. “You can’t talk to the same person the same way across the board. So I am looking forward to getting to know the race teams.”
