March 18 the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc marked the opening of Becky Kagan Schott’s new exhibit “Bringing Shipwrecks to Life,” which features 50 shipwreck images from around the Great Lakes.

Schott has spent 13 years diving and documenting shipwrecks in the Great Lakes, and her work includes everything from wooden schooners to steel freighters, bringing the historic wrecks to life through impressive photography and videos.

In addition to the images, there will be artifacts and 3D prints at the exhibit, which runs through November. Aprile 29, Schott will be at the museum for a VIP event, and again on April 30 for a public event surrounding the exhibit.

“The Great Lakes is one of the best shipwreck diving locations in the world. These inland seas have claimed thousands of ships over the centuries, and each wreck has a story to tell,” explains Schott in InDEPTH. “I travel and dive all around the world photographing some of the best locations, but the Great Lakes draws me back every summer since 2010. These magnificent wrecks continue to inspire me and ignite my imagination like no other. The cold fresh water preserves them remarkably well, so diving them is like plunging back in time and visiting another era. I’ve never felt closer to history than when diving here.”
