Boaz Team/Cockpit-Hopping For 7 Mile Offshore Grand Prix

Boaz Team/Cockpit-Hopping For 7 Mile Offshore Grand Prix

Just a week away, the Race World Offshore 7 Mile Grand Prix in Marathon, Fla., is the first race of the American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series. Daren Kittredge, the owner/driver of the Super Stock-class Northwing team won’t make it to the Marathon event. That opened the door for 2024 season Northwing throttleman Casey Boaz to instead join up wih his CR Racing partner Rob Unnerstall in a 31-foot Victory for next weekend’s Super Stock contest.

As far as their Super Stock pairing goes, Marathon will be the only contest of the season for Boaz and Unnerstall, who earned two world titles in the class. That’s because Boaz said the race-ready, Mercury Racing 300R outboard engine-powered 31-footer will be for sale after what is for all intents and purposes a demo race.

“We’re running the Victory in Marathon to debut it,” Boaz explained. “That’s the only Super Stock race Rob will do this season.”

After next weekend’s 7 Mile Offshore Grand Prix, Boaz will run in the Super Stock class with Northwing team owner/driver Daren Kittredge.

The 2018 model-year Victory cat formerly ran as Dubai Police in the Middle East-based X-Cat series, where it claimed a world title. Unnerstall purchased it two years ago with the intention of campaigning it in the Super Stock class, but never did.

“The Super Cat Skater became available and I had one of those, ‘You only live once moments’ and I bought it,” he said, then chuckled. “It’s a pretty amazing boat—it’s fast, stable and turns awesome. But it’s for sale.”

Unnerstall’s 31-foot Victory raceboat is currently for sale.

But Boaz and Unnerstall will share the cockpit of their CR Racing Skater Powerboats 388 raceboat for the entire 2024 Super Cat-class season. And Boaz, who’ll be pulling double-duty this year, will throttle the Northwing cat alongside Kittredge for the season, starting with the May 17-19 event in Cocoa Beach, Fla.

Both teams plan to run complete seasons, as well as compete in the early November Race World Offshore Key West Championships, in their respective classes.
