Bayfront Maritime Center Announces ‘Back to the Boats’ Campaign

Bayfront Maritime Center’s (BMC) new ‘Back to the Boats’ fundraiser supports the center’s mission to provide maritime education and community access to Lake Erie through maritime education and programming.

“Access to boating and connection to Lake Erie should not be restricted by an individual’s physical limitations or financial situation,” says Capt. Christopher Cusson, director of BMC. “Our mission is to promote access and eliminate obstacles to ensure equal opportunities.”

To that end, BMC offers a variety of programs including the Erie Adaptive Sailing Experience and Project COMPASS, an afterschool youth development program that integrates boat building and personal growth.

BMC’s goal is to improve access to recreational boating and sailing, foster youth development, enhance career and employment skills, lower financial and other barriers to participation, provide physical health benefits, strengthen social connections, promote mental well-being and increase community engagement through creative development programs.

“The Erie Community has a great resource in Presque Isle Bay and Lake Erie,” adds Cusson. “More of the Erie community should have access to the lake and the resources to engage and connect with it.”
