BAM Trail Pro-Am Tournament Co-Angler Information Sheet

Fishing as a co-angler in a BAM Pro-Am event is a great way to fish competitively, learn new techniques, and meet new anglers — all while having fun on the water.
What is a Co-Angler?
A co-angler (or amateur) fishes from the back of the boat with a professional angler. Co-anglers compete only against other co-anglers in the event. The Co-angler entry fee is $385 in BAM events.

Important: BAM events are NOT shared weight tournaments.
Each angler — pro and co-angler — must catch their own fish to be weighed.
You cannot assist in hooking, fighting, or catching a fish that will be weighed by your pro (and vice versa).
However, you can assist in landing or netting a fish after it has been hooked by your pro.
Skills Needed to Compete
- Basic casting, knot tying, and lure rigging skills
- Adaptability — fishing behind a pro requires versatility
- Awareness of boat space and etiquette
- Willingness to learn and communicate
- Positive attitude
What Gear Should You Bring?
Most co-anglers bring 5-7 rods and a small tackle bag.
Recommended tackle:
- Finesse baits (dropshot, shakey head, ned rig)
- Reaction baits (spinnerbait, chatterbait, crankbait)
- Soft plastics & terminal tackle
- Line for clear & heavy cover situations
- Lightweight rain gear & warm clothing
- Life jacket (optional but recommended)
- Food, drinks, sunscreen, fishing license
- Phone charger or battery pack
- Cash for gas money ($60-$100 recommended)

- Be calm and steady.
- Net fish head-first — avoid chasing the fish.
- Discuss netting expectations for your fish too.
Gas Money
- Co-anglers are expected to help cover fuel and oil expenses.
- Typical contribution is $60-$100 cash depending on how far the pro runs.
- Always ask your pro what they feel is fair and be prepared with cash.
Final Tips

- Respect the pro and their equipment.
- Communicate openly and enjoy the day!
