All Eyes On Miami In February
What’s to love about the Miami International Boat Show in February? First and obviously so, it’s in Miami in February, where daytime temperatures average in the low-to-mid 70s.
Meanwhile, the average high temperature in let’s say, Buffalo, N.Y., in February is 33 degrees.
Average February snowfall in Miami? Zero inches. Average February snowfall in Buffalo? A little more than 5 inches.
You get the point.
Second, the event leads into the Florida Powerboat Club/Speed On The Water Miami Boat Show Bash followed just a week later by the Florida Powerboat Club Miami Boat Show Poker Run.
Like the poker run, the third annual Friday night celebration is open to Florida Powerboat Club members in good standing and speedonthewater.com advertisers and special guests. The bash returns to the swanky Sagamore Hotel in South Beach, and it provides much-needed relief from strolling the Miami Convention Center as well as the Herald Park displays across Biscayne Bay.
As for the poker run the following weekend, it will top out at 70 to 80 high-performance catamarans, center consoles and V-bottom sportboats. Better still, a handful of them will be new builds delivered during the Miami show from the likes of Cigarette Racing Team, Deep Impact, MTI and Nor-Tech. And they’ll all be heading to the famed Hawks Cay Resort on Duck Key, with the traditional lunch-stop at Gilbert’s Resort and Tiki Bar in Key Largo, for the weekend. —Matt Trulio
