Once a casual, maybe even stealthy event signaling the end of the Lake of the Ozarks boating season, Performance Boat Center’s Fall Fun run has officially blown up. Last year’s happening on the Central Missouri waterway saw a 54-boat mix—a few boats up from the 2020 event total—of high-performance catamarans, center consoles and V-bottom sportboats.
Under blue skies with temperatures that reached the high 60s, yesterday’s event pulled in a record-setting 70 boats.

“It was one of the best ones yet,” said Brett Manire, who co-owns the MTI, Performance Powerboats and Sunsation Powerboats dealership in Osage Beach with Mark Waddington. “There was all kinds of neat hardware and great people—and the weather was perfect.”
In addition to Lake of the Ozarks locals, participants from around the country came to enjoy the event. Michiganders Justin and Melissa Snook, married on the deck of their 42-foot Fountain sportboat on the lake in May, were among them.
Most major powerboat brands were represented in the run.
“The whole weekend was great,” said Justin Snook. “We had sucked up a small bag and the Performance Boat Center team went above and beyond and got us up and running and squeeze us into their already packed schedule. The run was a blast, and the private party at The Cove was a very cool spot.”
Added Melissa Snook, “The Cave is really unique and a great spot to hang out and enjoy conversations with friends we don’t see all the time—as well as getting to see the Performance Boat Center crew.”

Officially closed for the season, The Cove, which is among the lake’s newest waterfront hotspots, opened just for the Performance Boat Center. As the owner of the popular venue, Waddington can make such things happen.
“The Redhead Lakeside Grill and The Cave staff opened it for the event,” said Manire. “The Performance Boat Center service department paid for pizza for the group.”
Fall Fun Run participants enjoyed a private party at The Cove.
Contributing photographer Jeff Helmkamp captured most of the event for speedonthewater.com. For the first leg of the run, he shot from the Lake of the Ozarks Community Toll Bridge. Once off the bridge, he joined Roger and Nancy Neighbors, who graciously allow the speedonthewater.com team to use their Porta Cima home in Sunrise Beach as its office/hotel/crash-pad during the annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, on their 42-foot Fountain.
“A great time was had by all, it seemed,” said Helmkamp. “I believe we shut down Coconuts Caribbean Bar and Grill, another stop during the run, for the season. And the food was half-off.”
