An Arkansas-based, business-to-business consulting firm, Parallel Project has signed on to be the presenting sponsor for the 11th annual Speed On The Water Key West Bash at the Pickles Pub’s Sandbar Sports Grill on Greene Street. The event, which includes a live auction that will once again benefit the Key West-based Samuel’s House shelter for women, children and intact families, is set for Thursday, November 7, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

In addition to helping fund the celebration, Parallel Project with make a substantial donation to the 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

“Parallel Project is a consulting company that helps fellow entrepreneurs in decision-making and relationship development through business,” said Ben Lehman, one founders of the business. “We focus largely on the construction industry, but we have also done a lot of work in the marine industry due to my background.”

A former offshore racer who has a 44-foot MTI catamaran, Lehman owns a road-building and commercial excavation company. Through business and boating, he became close friends with Nick Whitehead, who also owns a construction business (heavy equipment), as well as Big M Marina at Missouri’s Table Rock Lake and a 36-foot Spectre catamaran.

Lehman and Whitehead have been working with the Powerboat P1 group. In 2023 and 2024, they traveled to the P1 Offshore-produced Midwest Challenge in Sheboygan, Wis.

“We really want to help P1 grow and the entire sport grow,” Whitehead said. “They were really lacking on how they were ‘getting down the road,’ so we got them a brand-new dually and a half-ton pickup this year.”

But that is just the beginning of the Parallel Project’s offshore racing involvement. Lehman and Whitehead plan to field and support two teams in 2025. They will announce those plans Thursday, November 7, on speedonthewater.com shortly before the Key West celebration begins. They’ll also be on “The Zone” 97.7 FM Sports Radio that evening at 6 p.m. with local broadcasters Rick Lopez and Todd Swofford to reveal more about their 2025 competition goals.

Until then, they are keeping specifics under wraps.

“We want to help the sport grow through participation and support of the other teams as a unit, moving forward together through great competition,” said Lehman.
