Sarasota Waves And Wheels Fun Run Set For Late June
Not to be confused with an event hosted by the famed Waves And Wheels outfit owned by Justin Wagner in Osage Beach, Mo., the Sarasota, Fla.-based Waves And Wheels Fun Run In Honor of Noel Speranza is set for June 29-30 in Sarasota, Fla. The land-and-sea poker-run-style happening will benefit the nonprofit Suncoast Charities For Children.

Lucy Nicandri, the former lead organizer of the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix and longtime director of Suncoast Charities Children, is heading up the late-June event.
“Proceeds raised from the event will benefit Suncoast Charities for Children to provide support toward the Ron Foxworthy Memorial Children’s Scholarship Fund,” explained Nicandri, who also works on the Powerboat P1 marketing and media team. “This fund was established last year to provide therapy scholarships to children who come from families that are underinsured or uninsured due to rising healthcare costs. These scholarships will enable them to continue receiving the speech, physical, and occupational therapies that they need.”
The fun run also fills another need, at least for go-fast powerboat fans in the Southwest Florida community. Until this year, the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix—formerly the Suncoast Powerboat Grand Prix—had been scheduled for the July 4 weekend or within a few days of it. The P1 Offshore-produced event is scheduled for September 13-15.
Local offshore powerboat-racing great Billy Glueck, now throttling for the I team in the Bracket 200 class, is a member of the Waves And Wheels Fun Run organizing committee. So, too, is technician Josh Boothby of Sarasota-based Innovation Marine, one of the event’s backers. Other local marine industry sponsors include Marker 1 Marine, Erickson Marine, Sara Bay Marina, Innovation Marine and Boat Guys of Sarasota.
Offshore racer Billy Glueck of Twisted Metal team is among the event’s organizers.
Said Nicandri, “The Waves and Wheels Fun Run is in memory of Suncoast Charities for Children board-member Noel Speranza who had a passion for boating, motorcycling, and cars. It was only fitting that the event include all three.”
