Bago Big Bet Auction Items Coming In Hot
The official shooter for the Bago Big Bet event presented by Mercury Racing, Tom Leigh is teaming up with speedonthewater.com on an auction item for the inaugural event. The highest bidder during the June 20-23 happening will receive a 30-x-50-inch metal print of his boat in action during the Saturday poker run on Lake Winnebago.
The print has a $750 value. All proceeds from the Saturday night auction will go to K9s For Warriors, the event’s benefitting charity.

“We host an auction of our own every year in Key West (Fla.) for a local charity there so we know how important it is to have great auction items,” said Jason Johnson, the co-publisher of Northern California-based speedonthewater.com. “We think this one, a metal print by Tom Leigh—one of the best shooters on the go-fast boating scene today—of the winning bidder’s boat in action at the first Bago Big Bet, in Mercury Racing’s backyard, is pretty freaking cool.”
Shannon Higgins, the lead organizer of the Bago Big Bet and founder of Offshore Wench event productions, agreed.
“What a cool idea,” she said. “The winning bidder will have something more than memories from the Bago Big Bet to go on the wall after he or she gets home.”
On a more local level, Wisconsin headquartered CMI and fellow CompX-owned company and Livorsi Marine headquartered in Illinois-based are donating items items for the auction. On the boat-builder side, Arizona’s DCB Performance Marine also is donating an item. For now, at least, all three companies are keeping the specifics of their donationis under wraps.
Registration closes in two weeks. That means from here on out it is “crunch” for Higgins, who is still accepting auction items, and her team.
“We really appreciate Mercury Racing’s support, but I have to give a shout-out to my staff for helping take this event to the next level,” she said. “In particular, I need to thank Kristina Hansen of Hansen’s Heavy Hauling, one of our sponsors. She has been my right-hand girl throughout the organization process and I couldn’t have done this without her help.”
A former longtime member of the Mercury Racing/Mercury Marine team, Johnny Bauer, now the vice-president of manufacturing for DCB Performance Marine, is returning to his former hometown area for the run. Bauer will be traveling from his new digs in the Phoenix area to join South Floridians Greg Harris and Yvonne Aleman in their new DCB M37R catamaran for the run. As previously reported, fellow DCB M37R owners Kelly O’Hara and Kiran Pinisetti also are registered for the event.
“I’m going back to my old stomping grounds,” he said. “And it’s going to be really fun to show the DCB owners in the Bago Big Bet around my home-water.”
