Class 1 World Championship Series Secures Legend Yacht Transport Sponsorship

A longtime supporter of powerboat racing from Formula 1 tunnel-boats to Unlimited hydroplanes, David Holley has once again stepped up to back the sport. This time around, Holley is putting Legend Yacht Transport, his Fort Lauderdale, Fla., company behind the 2023 Union Internationale Motonautique Class 1 World Championship Series as the six-race circuit’s Official Logistics Provider.

The news was announced in a press release from Powerboat P1, which holds the marketing rights to Class 1, this morning.

“As a keen follower and supporter of powerboat racing, I am excited to see Class 1 returning to its former glory and that is testament to the whole team involved and the racers themselves,” Holley said in the release. “As one of the world’s leading yacht and boat transporters, we know that we will offer a valuable resource to those in powerboat racing who need a dedicated logistics provider with service levels second to none.

“Our business has grown rapidly over the past year and we have been looking to make a move into the performance logistics world,” he added.

The business relationship between Holley and Powerboat P1 goes back a decade.

“We partnered with Dave some ten years ago, so we are very much aware of his knowledge and experience of powerboat racing and his love of the sport,” said Rangoonwala. “It’s gratifying that he has chosen to sponsor the UIM Class 1 championship and we look forward to growing together on our journey to take Class 1 back to the pinnacle of offshore racing.”

In addition to its Class 1 sponsorship, Legend Yacht Transport is backing the U-11 Unlimited hydroplane team this season.

The Class 1 World Championship Series season-opener is set for May 18-21 in Cocoa Beach, Fla. At present, eight teams are committed to compete this year.
