Gallery Of The Week: Cayo Costa Beach From Above

The annual Fort Myers Offshore fun run/raft-up to the pretty sands of Cayo Costa Beach could be the club’s most casual event. And that’s saying something because all of the Southwest Florida-based nonprofit scholarship fundraising outfit’s outing are pretty laidback. But the Cayo Costa trek, which saw an event-record-setting 44 boats make the trip, is as chill as any boating event gets.

As such, it also is one of the club’s most popular events “by far” according to Tim Hill, the president of Fort Myers Offshore.

“There are no docking issues, no buffet lines or slow service, just a bunch of likeminded performance boaters on a remote sandbar in beautiful Southwest Florida,” he explained.“With winds out of the south at 10 mph and a high of 89 degrees, the weather was perfect for our annual Cayo Costa Beach Raft Up.

Fort Myers Offshore member Mikey Boyle ran his MTI 390X catamaran in the event. Boyle also bought his camera-equipped drone to capture images from the picture-perfect day. His aerial photos don’t just provide a perspective participants can’t get from the beach. They explain why Cayo Costa is such a fine destination.

Last Saturday’s event was a hit with the Fort Myers Offshore faithful.

Said Hill, “In terms of turnout and weather, this year’s run to Cayo Costa was one for the books.”

The final event of the club’s 2022/2023 season, the “Run To The Village” presented by Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats is set for Saturday, April 22, and is one of the organization’s designated fundraisers. Registration for the run is open.
