2023 Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run—By The Numbers – Speed on the Water

With the first departure-wave of the Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run from the Miami area set for Tuesday, November 7, the current total of 245 registered boats isn’t likely to change much between now and then. That’s still quite a number for the club’s signature event, which runs concurrently with the Race World Offshore Key West World Championship.

There are 36 boats in the Tuesday departure, which was brought back this year by Florida Powerboat Club head Stu Jones after being discontinued for several years. The number jumps to 70 boats leaving Wednesday and 125 boats signed up to head out Thursday.

“That does not count the handful of about 15 to 18 teams that are coming in from alternative departure points some from the West Coast of Florida, and some of them actually running down on yachts and big cruisers on their own agenda,” Jones explained. “These are not in the total run count because we only count boats for lunch stops for that.”

“As far as the manufacturer breakdown goes, the leading builder is MTI with about 35 boats, followed by Nor-Tech and Cigarette with nearly 30 boats a piece and Statement and Midnight Express, each with about 15 boats registered,” he added.”

As in years past, both Nor-Tech Cigarette will have separate lunch stops for interested owners. The Nor-Tech fleet is headed to Sundowners for lunch, while the Cigarette group will take its lunch break at the Playa Largo Resort.

With 245 boats coming town, dock space will be at premium next week in Key West.

“Not only is that a nice attraction for boat owners with those brands, it helps ‘smooth out’ the flow of boats passing through Key Largo and takes a little pressure off the Gilbert’ Resort and Tiki Bar lunch stop,” Jones explained. “We are currently in the FPC studio preparing a comprehensive, 45-minute video that will be circulated to all captains outlining the important safety guidelines, as well as focusing on the updates and changes to the logistics of this signature Key West Poker Run event.”
