1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run To Donate Record $250,000 To Make-A-Wish Of Central New York
In yet another record-setting effort fueled by participants, sponsors, volunteers and its own organizing committee, the 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run in Clayton, N.Y., raised enough money through the July event to donate $250,000 to Make-A-Wish of Central New York. The total eclipses the previous record of $205,000 raised for the nonprofit organization in 2023.
And it dwarfs the $102,000 the event raised for Make-A-Wish of Central New York just two years ago.

“Of our 84 wishes we have granted to date, more than a quarter have been funded by this event. It is incredible,” said Dianne Kuppermann, the executive director of Make-A-Wish of Central New York, in an interview during the second day of the 2024 event. “And it also gives us confidence as we head into each new fiscal year, which starts in September, that we will have a good jumpstart on our ability to ‘say yes’ to every child.”
The news was announced in a post late yesterday evening on the sixth annual event’s Facebook page.
“This amount will allow for 25 wishes to be granted,” the post read. “Together, we are helping grant wishes to kids with critical illnesses, to allow them to forget about their ailments, if only for a short period of time. Thank you for everyone that helped make 2024 so successful. We couldn’t have done it without you.”
