Weekendnomics At The Ozarks

Though they carry different go-fast powerboat brands and offer different customer experiences based on their own company cultures, Big Thunder Marine and Performance Boat Center have no less than four things in common. First, they’re sell powerboats. Second, they are located at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri. Third, despite that they offer different lines, they are by definition competitors.
And fourth? Both dealerships have events on tap this weekend.
For Big Thunder Marine, that means the Cigarette Owners Rendezvous. On the Performance Boat Center front, that translates to the Power by Performance Invitational Fun Run.

Why are there two significant events on the same early-season weekend from two different powerboat dealerships? Simple. There are just 14 weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day. When it comes to event planning at the Central Missouri waterway, weekend demand outstrips weekend supply.
Call it Weekendnomics.
Despite the aforementioned rivalry between the two powerhouse dealerships, this weekend’s organized happenings really don’t conflict. Yes, they’re on the same lake, but it’s a big lake and the events have different host-venues and destinations. They’re also brand-specific. The Big Thunder Marine Cigarette event is for, go figure, Cigarette owners as Big Thunder is the Opa-Locka, Fla., company’s Lake of the Ozarks dealer.
The Powerboat by Performance Invitational is open to MTI, Performance Powerboats and Sunsation Powerboats owner, meaning lines carried exclusively at the waterway by Performance Boat Center.

That means on the same weekend—the one upcoming—owners of four different brands have something casual but well-organized to do at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Is there a downside to the event double-up? Only if you happen to own a Cigarette sportboat and, for example, a Sunsation center console. Then you’ll either have to make a choice between the two events or find a way to vessel-hop and split your time, which could be done if properly planned.
It’s simple Weekendnomics.
