Utah’s Nick Child To Lead Lake Powell Challenge Tour In New Deep Impact 399

A Lake Powell local who spent his formative years exploring the mind-bending waterway, Utah’s Nick Child briefly debated selling his beloved DCB Performance Marine M37R catamaran at the end of season. But parting with the twin Mercury Racing 450R outboard engine-powered 37-footer proved too painful for the longtime go-fast boat enthusiast. So he’s keeping that, but like so many performance-loving watermen he has ordered a center console.

Child said he will take delivery of a new Deep Impact 399 center console at the 2025 Miami International Boat Show. The following weekend, he will join the Florida Powerboat Club group for its Miami Boat Show Poker Run.

That he and his wife, Monnica, have two young sons means the family can make good use of the extra space afforded by their new 39-footer. But Child has other reasons for adding a center console to his fleet.

“We’ve been looking at them for a few years,” he explained. “With our little boys having a bedroom for them to nap with air-conditioning will be really nice. We want to expand our boating into the ocean and we are really looking forward to joining the Florida Powerboat Club runs. And Brianna Murray and the team at Deep Impact have been amazing to work with.

“We can’t wait for the Miami Boat Show run,” he continued. “I’ve never done any boating there and it’s a huge bucket-list item for me. We want to expand our boating into the ocean.

“We watch the Florida Powerboat Club YouTube channel every Sunday morning with coffee, so all of this coming together is a dream come true,” he added.

The Deep Impact team is equally delighted with Child’s center console choice, and not just for the obvious reason.

“Nick is our first owner in Utah,” said Valentina Botero, the marketing manager for Deep Impact dealer Plantation Boat Mart & Marina in Tavernier, Fla. “We can’t wait.”

Unlike Child’s 37-foot catamaran, the 39-foot center console will be powered by 400-hp outboards from the Fond du Lac, Wis., high-performance marine engine and accessories company. And there will be four of the V-10 engines on the Deep Impact’s transom.

Despite that they have a Deep Impact center console coming, Nick and Monnica Child have no intention of parting with their DCB catamaran.

As part of a Lake Powell Challenge 2025 auction item that went to performance boating enthusiast and MTI-V 50 owner Bryan Houtchens with a remarkably generous winning bid earlier this month during the Speed On The Water Key West Bash auction benefitting Samuel’s House. The package included a Child-led Friday tour of the lake ahead of Saturday’s main event.

Now Child will use his Deep Impact 399 to lead the tour, but DCB fans need not worry about the future of his prized catamaran.

“The M37R isn’t going anywhere—that boat is my baby and I love it way too much,” he said.  “The thought of selling it was killing me. We sold our pontoon and decided to keep the 37 and add this center console. We think it will be the best of both worlds.”
