Tomlinson To Return To Altered Double-Duty This Season

For Miami-based offshore racing world champion John Tomlinson, the throttling game remains much the same this year. On the Pro Class 1 side of his 2025 competition equation, he’ll rejoin Alegra Motorsports owner/driver Carlos de Quesada in the cockpit of the team’s new 45-foot Victory catamaran.

The new Alegra Motorsports 45-footer is almost ready for testing.
Last year, the cockpit duo ran a 47-foot Victory in the Class 1 category. Now, they’re looking forward to competing in what is sure to be a more-competitive boat
Tomlinson also shared the cockpit of the 450R Factory Stock-class MTI 390XR catamaran with driver Taylor Scism since she entered the sport several years ago. Earlier this year, the MTI vice-president announced she is stepping back from offshore racing. Not only is Scism expanding her role with the Wentzville, Mo., company, she and husband Shaun Peters will have their first child in October.
That opened the door for Tomlinson to go elsewhere, and he has. The TNT Custom Marine co-owner will throttle alongside 18-year-old Caleb Mead in the 39-foot Mead Family Racing MTI 390XR cat in the Factory Stock class.
Tomlinson and Mead have been practicing ahead of their first event the season, dubbed XINSURANCE Offshore, at the Lake of the Ozarks in late June. Formerly 450R Factory Stock, the category was renamed Factory Stock this season when it officially adopted twin Mercury Racing 500R outboard engines as spec power.

Young Caleb Mead with share the cockpit with a living legend this season.
Tomlinson said he likes the extra punch.
“The boats are really quick with the new power,” he quipped. “They perk right up with them on the transom.
The current Pro Class 1 Alegra Motorsports team’s current 2025 competition plan calls for Tomlinson and de Quesada to begin testing the new boat ahead of its Lake of the Ozarks debut. Crew chief Gary Stray has almost completed the 45-footer’s renovation.
“Carlos and I are looking forward to see what the new cat can do,” Tomlinson. said “We’re pretty excited about it, actually.”
