Thompson Creek Celebrates 45 Years with Annual Fish-A-Palooza and Community Giving
Thompson Creek marks 45 years with its annual Fish A Palooza donating to employee nominated nonprofits and celebrating community legacy and teamwork

Stevensville, MD – June 9, 2025 – In celebration of its 45th anniversary, Thompson Creek Window Company hosted its beloved annual employee appreciation event, Fish-A-Palooza, on the Chesapeake Bay. This year’s gathering stood out not only for its camaraderie and competition but also for its deepened commitment to community impact, with donations made to two nonprofits nominated by employees.

Honoring 45 Years with Meaningful Giving

To mark this company milestone, Thompson Creek donated $5,000 each to two nonprofit organizations with personal ties to employees: HOPE: Animal-Assisted Crisis Response (HOPE AACR) and The Jacob Sloan Foundation. Both organizations were chosen for their transformative community work and the heartfelt stories behind the nominations.

Supporting Crisis Response Through Canine Comfort

HOPE AACR, nominated by employee Jason White, provides trained canine teams to offer emotional support during traumatic events. Jason’s nomination honored his wife Michelle’s volunteer work and their late dog Pip, a certified crisis response dog. Pip’s gentle presence comforted victims across Maryland and beyond.

“I’ve seen the difference Michelle and Pip have made,” Jason shared. “I wanted Thompson Creek to help continue that legacy.”

Uplifting Grieving Families Through Art, Athletics, and Community

The Jacob Sloan Foundation, nominated by employee Rebecca Donovan, supports children and families through financial aid, arts and athletic programs, and community outreach. Rebecca connected with the foundation’s co-founder, Mary Sloan, in a grief support group after the loss of her son, Noah.

“Mary’s strength and mentorship have guided me through my hardest times,” said Rebecca. “Nominating the foundation was my way of giving back.”

A Tradition of Celebration and Connection: About Fish-A-Palooza

First launched in 2003 as a small fishing outing by CEO Rick Wuest, Fish-A-Palooza has grown into one of the most anticipated events on the Thompson Creek calendar. Held each spring on the Chesapeake Bay, the event fosters camaraderie among employees, friends, and partners through a day of fishing and celebration.

The 2025 event began at 5:30 a.m. with 10 charter fishing boats launching from the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club, hosting over 100 participants. The day concluded with an afternoon celebration, drawing close to 250 guests for food, music, and the always-anticipated weigh-in ceremony.

“Fish-A-Palooza is about taking time to appreciate the people who make this company what it is,” said CEO Rick Wuest. “Adding a charitable element this year made it even more meaningful.”

A Legacy of Community and Forward Vision

As Thompson Creek reflects on 45 years of growth and excellence, the company remains committed to more than just superior home improvement services. Events like Fish-A-Palooza highlight its dedication to recognizing employees and giving back to the community.

“This year’s celebration was a reminder of the impact our people have, both inside and outside the company,” said Wuest.
