The Ultimate Toy Barn
No one collects—and sells—custom high-performance powerboats like Ron Szolack. Right now, for example, his 6,000-foot storage facility at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri houses a 2025 Skater 388 catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing 500R outboard engines, a 2012 Skater 40 SS catamaran equipped with a pair of Mercury Racing of 1350 engines and 2025 Cigarette Racing Team 41 Nighthawk center console outfitted with quad Mercury Racing 400R outboards.
Even if his 2010 model-year 48-foot MTI catamaran with Mercury racing 1350 were in his toy barn rather than presently on the boat-lift behind his sleek 5,000-square-foot home, there still would plenty of space left for another boat or three.
No one who knows him would dare bet against that happening.
“The inventory changes frequently,” Szolack said, then laughed.
Just up the road from his current digs, Szolack is building a 16,000-square-foot pad. Of that massive structure, 10,000 feet is living space. The other 6,000 feet?
You guessed it, a garage. It will house whatever other boats and exotic cars he happens to have at the time in addition to whatever is in his storage facility
Often mistaken by passersby as a boutique hotel under construction, the massive home is slated for completion in a couple of months. And like his current home and everything else noted above, it is for sale.
Because buying and selling things is Szolack’s business/hobby. The guy retired from then gentleman’s club business several years ago. Horse-trading is profitable for him —he rarely if ever takes a haircut—but it’s also his entertainment.
What makes it all work is that no matter how much Szolack loves something he’s selling, it’s still for sale. He doesn’t get emotionally attached to it.
“I don’t care which of my home sells first,” he recently told a friend by way of example, then shrugged and grinned. “I’ll be happy to live in either one of them.”
