Maryland/Chesapeake Bay Striper Fishing Report

Friday, May 16, the first segment of the 2025 striped bass season began. DNR’s striped bass regulation map shows what areas are open, are catch & release only, or closed to striped bass fishing throughout the year.

While most of the bass left in Chesapeake Bay are of the “schoolie” size class, large fish are still migrating north along Maryland and Delaware’s ocean beaches like Assateague Island.

New Jersey Striper Fishing Report

The spring striper run remains strong in Southern New Jersey, with 40-inch-plus stripers still moving along the ocean front, and appearing in the inlets and bays. In the northern half of the state, the fishing is on fire, with massive bass piling up off the beaches, and good fish still in Raritan Bay, though many seem to be moving out toward the ocean. Boats are reporting many fish over 40 pounds.

New York Striper Report

Bunker schools along the South Shore are attracting bass into the 40-plus-pound range, while winds and weather have made fishing challenging on the North Shore, but when conditions allow, large fish are there.

Connecticut/Rhode Island Striper Report

Large stripers are filling into Long Island Sound, with 40-inch-plus fish gravitating toward the rivers, and more large fish arriving from east and west as Hudson and Chesapeake stocks converge.

In Rhode Island, large stripers continue to haunt bunker schools in Narragansett Bay, with conditions in the bay ideal for the hungry bass arriving from the south.

Cape Cod/Massachusetts Striper Report

The large schools of stripers continue to move through Buzzards Bay, with a large mix of sizes reported, from 20-inch schoolies to 45-inch cows. Large stripers have also been reported in Cape Cod Bay, while the south side of the Cape and the Outer Cape are still seeing only schoolie and slot-size fish.

Stripers to 30 pounds have been reported on the Massachusetts South Shore, and everything is looking good for a push of large bass into Boston within the next week. The North Shore is also seeing good stripers, with numbers of slot-size and over-slot fish improving every day.

New Hampshire/Maine Striper Report

Schools of slot-size bass are chasing herring in Great Bay, while schoolie and slot stripers are beelining for Maine rivers.
