STR Team Heading Into Super Stock Season With Revamped Raceboat, Strong Backers And New Driver

A three-time tunnel-boat racing world champion who joined offshore racing’s Super Stock ranks several years ago, Shaun Torrente has been more than a little busy in the off-season. And the fruits of his considerable labor will be on display this Saturday when he and new driver Matt Jamniczky take to the racecourse in the season-opening Thunder On Cocoa Beach event in Cocoa Beach, Fla.

The Super Stock-class Shaun Torrente Racing team is entering the 2025 season with its sights set on claiming a national championship.

Not only does the Shaun Torrente Racing team have a new driver in Jamniczky—formerly of the Super Cat-class Rollin Transport/SV Offshore Racing team—it has an “overhauled and revamped” STR Powerboats 966 catamaran ready for the season, according to a press release from the team.

“This wasn’t just fine-tuning—it was a ground-up reimagining based on invaluable experience gained last season,” the release stated. “STR is aiming to push the boundaries of the Super Stock class, elevating not only outright performance but also setting new benchmarks for safety advancements which have already proven their merit.”

Per the release, Torrente is “keeping specific details under wraps, preferring to let the boat’s performance demonstrate the scale of the transformation.”

But Hi-Tech Deck, the team’s new title sponsor, is no secret.

“Supporting STR’s run for the National Championship is a perfect fit for Hi-Tech Deck,” said Robert Litzenberger of the Jupiter, Fla., company, which manufacturers PE/EVA cross-linked closed-cell foam decking. “Their drive for innovation and performance matches what we have achieved with our decking. We’re excited to be part of their journey throughout the 2025 season.”

Additional backers of the team’s 2025 campaign included Accurate Pavers, Dewald Props, Marine Trading Post and Woody’s Smokehouse No. 1.

“Winning a national championship requires excellence across the board, from the boat’s engineering to the team in the cockpit and the partners supporting us,” said Torrente, who will reprise his throttleman role in the reimagined catamaran, in the release. “With the radical changes to the STR Powerboats 966 based on last year’s data, the skill Matt brings, and the incredible backing from Hi-Tech Deck, Accurate Pavers, Dewald Props, Marine Trading Post, and Woody’s Smokehouse No. 1, we have assembled all the pieces.

“Cocoa Beach is just the first step,” he added. “Our sights are set on the top step of the podium at the end of the season.”
