Shimano Expands Stella SW D Lineup with 8000 size

Shimano has added two new options to its flagship saltwater spinning reel series with the release of the Stella SW D 8000, available in two gear ratios to match different fishing styles.
The 8000PG (4.8:1) offers increased torque for turning big fish in close quarters, while the 8000HG (5.6:1) gives anglers faster pickup — ideal for covering water with plugs and jigs or reacting quickly during surface feeds.
Both models are built around Shimano’s proven cold-forged HAGANE Gear system, now paired with InfinityXross and Infinity Drive for smoother, more durable performance under pressure. A fully redesigned X Tough Drag system improves heat dissipation and delivers more reliable pressure during long runs and hard fights.
Casting distance and line management also get an upgrade thanks to InfinityLoop for near-perfect line lay and the new Anti-Twist Fin, which helps control slack and prevent wind knots when fishing braid in rough surf or open water.
For anglers who demand top-tier performance from their gear, the Stella SW D 8000PGD and 8000HGD bring unmatched refinement and raw power to nearshore and light offshore battles.
Look to this size as a great light-tackle tuna option for those “under” bluefin in the 30- to 45-inch range or white marlin. It could serve as a heavy-duty striper or cobia reel, and go to work on tarpon, jacks, and other hard-fighting southern species. Some anglers may even find use for it in the Cape Cod Canal, where the 42 inches per turn can help in burning a plug in for another cast at breaking fish. Both models hold 340 yards of 40-pound test, or 265 yards of 50, and prices start at $1,069.
