A powerboat painter of above-average quality—OK, rock-star quality—Stephen Miles has produced several shot-skis for various go-fast boating event charity auctions. During the 2022 Kuttawa Cannonball Run auction, which the Owensboro, Ky., graphics man helps organize, a Stephen Miles Design-created shot-ski fetched a record-setting $27,000 and represented nearly one third of the total money raised for local charities.

A pair of Stephen Miles Design-dressed shot-skis commanded $33,000 during the 2022 Kuttawa Cannonball Poker Run charity auction.

That’s a lot of dough for four shot glasses glued to an airbrushed wooden plank, but then Miles is one talented dude. And for reasons that remain happily mysterious, elaborate shot-skis continue to be hot auction items at go-fast boating events.

So how will Miles top himself for the one he’s creating for the charity auction during this year’s Racing To Rebuild-themed Speed On The Water Key West Bash presented by CMR Construction and Roofing that is scheduled for November 10, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the Sandbar Sports Grill at 511 Greene Street?

By doing nothing, at least for now. Miles is going to take custom to another level, meaning the winning bidder will receive a shot-ski painted to match the colors of his or her boat.

Of course, that also means the winning bidder won’t go home with the finished product. That will take a month or so and Miles will ship the shot-ski when it’s complete.

Bidders who want something to take away that night from the noteworthy Kentucky paint shop also won’t be disappointed as Miles is creating a longboard-style skateboard for the auction. Yep, pretty cool stuff from a pretty cool cat.

Proceeds from the event will goes to Samuel’s House, the party’s longtime charitable beneficiary, in Key West and the Fort Myers Beach Women’s Club and the Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation, a couple of nonprofit organizations that have teamed up for their community to raise money for their #WeAreFMB Resilient fund. A longtime MTI client and well-known figure in the performance boat community, Todd Campbell will be the auctioneer at this year’s Speed On The Water Key West Bash, which is celebrating its ninth anniversary. Co-organizers Yvonne Alemán and Greg Harris are working behind the scenes to nail down details and Devin Wozencraft of Wozencraft Insurance Agency is once again sponsoring the food for the celebration.
