Raymarine And TFR/Wozencraft Teams Earn Checkered Flags In Guntersville Heat Races

Team Raymarine owner/driver Cole Leibel and throttleman Gary Ballough headed into this weekend’s Super Stock-class competition as part of the Lake Guntersville Hydrofest event in Alabama win the first checkered flag of the 2025 offshore racing season to their credit. The international cockpit duo—Leibel hails from Canada and Ballough is from the United States—claimed victory at last month’s Thunder on Cocoa Beach event on the Central Florida Coast.

With a heat win in Guntersville this morning in their 32-foot Victory catamaran, Leibel and Ballough are continuing their strong roll and hoping to maintain their momentum into tomorrow’s main event. The cockpit-mates bested six other Super Stock teams on the 4.5-mile course in the six-lap heat race. They were followed by Coco’s Monkey and CELSIUS.

“The boat felt great,” said Leibel. “It’s been a great start to the season so far.

“The organizers have really rolled out the red carpet for us,” he added.

Though there was no flight-time to be found on Lake Guntersville, the TFR/Woznecraft team’s boat caught big-air on the way to the water.

The weekend also has turned out well so far for the second-place finishers in Cocoa Beach. The Tschida Family Racing /Wozencraft team of owner/driver Jeremy Tschida and throttleman Julian Maldonado of Manatee Marine Unlimited in Palmetto, Fla., backed up last-months runner-up result with a win today in the second heat on the lake. They were followed by the Mom Ain’t Happy and Team Bermuda/GL Construction teams.

“The setup is nice here, and it’s a fun little course,” Maldonado said, then laughed. “Of course, I am not a fan of flat water so we’ll see what tomorrow brings.”

One thing tomorrow is certain to bring? All 13 Super Stock teams on the racecourse at the same time.

Said CELSIUS team owner Chris Hopgood, “It’s going to be tight.”
