Race World Offshore 7 Offshore Grand Prix Registration Settles At 65 Boats

Starting almost a full month earlier than it has in recent years, the offshore racing season is off to a robust start with 65 boats registered for this weekend’s inaugural 7 Mile Offshore Grand Prix in Marathon, Fla. Most teams are either already in town for the Race World Offshore-produced event, the first of five races in the American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series, at the Middle Florida Keys Venue.

“We had a great preregistration and in the last 10 days we got a big push,” said Rodrick Cox of Race World Offshore “We are excited to be producing the first race of the season, especially with such a strong turnout.”

Of the 65 teams signed up for Sunday’s race, 11 are in the Super Stock class, 10 are in the Mod V category, nine are in the Super Cat ranks and six are registered in the 450R Factory Stock category. The Bracket 700 class has excellent representation with its eight-boat fleet, followed by Bracket 500 with seven boats in the mix and four teams in Bracket 200 class.

The race pits are open today for spectators to visit until 5 p.m. The 7 Mile Offshore Grand Prix at Aquarium Encounters at 5:30 p.m., followed by the event’s after-party at its Faro Blanco Resort and Yacht Club host hotel venue.

Tomorrow’s first testing session will begin at 9 a.m. and stop at noon to clear the course for competition in the Bracket 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600 classes, which is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. Testing will resume at 2:30 p.m. and conclude at 4:30- p.m. The Saturday night Race World Offshore Sunset Grille Party opens at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by another after-party at the Faro Blanco property, starting at 8:30 p.m.

Sunday’s race schedule is as follows:

9:30 a.m.—Mod V and Bracket 700.
11 a.m.—450R Factory Stock and Extreme V.
1:30 p.m.—Super Stock.
3:30 p.m.—Super Cat.

Scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the Faro Blanco venue, the awards presentation will be followed by another after-party on property. Viewers can enjoy livestream coverage of the 7 Mile Offshore Grand Prix on the P1 Offshore Facebook Page.
