Platinum 428 Catamaran Sees Strong Early Response And Attracts Veteran Dealer

Platinum Powerboats had four orders for its 42-foot-long, outboard engine-powered catamaran two weeks ago when it announced the new model was in the offing. Now the O’Fallon, Mo.-based custom builder has 10 orders between eight pleasure models and two raceboats. And marine industry veteran Randy Kent of RK Motorsports has signed as the brand’s first dealer.

The first Platinum 428 catamaran has captured plenty of attention from buyers since its introduction earlier this month.

“The response to our boat has been nothing short of incredible,” said Scott Grants, who co-owns Platinum Powerboats with Edwin L. Scheer. “Everyone who has visited the factory has been blown away by the boat’s quality, attention to detail and workmanship.

“It’s an amazing and humbling validation to the three years of our whole teams dedication to building the best possible high-performance catamaran,” he added.

Based in Missouri, RK Motorsports exclusively will represent the brand at the Lake of the Ozarks, as well as the high-performance boating hotbed of Lake Havasu in Arizona. An industry veteran, Kent believes the Platinum 428 catamaran is the ideal complement to the Renegade line of center consoles, which his dealership also carries.

Platinum plans to have its website up and running in four to six weeks.

Kent’s first looked at Platinum 428 catamaran hull No. 1 six weeks ago at the builder’s O’Fallon headquarters.

“I am very picky about what I will attach my name to,” he said. “I was very, very impressed. A lot of catamaran builders have a gotten away from the attention to detail boats in their price range require. From everything I saw, I think the 42-foot Platinum catamaran is going to be a winner.

Kent added that he is currently working on a “package deal” combining a color-matched Platinum 428 cat and a 42-foot Renegade center console. He plans on contracting Visual Imagination’s Mark Morris, his longtime friend and business associate, to handle the paint design and application for both models.
