Pirates Of Lanier Charity Poker Run Moving Back A Week In September

Due to circumstances outside their control, the organizers of the Pirates of Lanier Charity Poker Run, which recently announced they were moving the event on Georgia’s Lake Lanier back two months from July to September, announced they are pushing the poker run back a week to September 14-17.

According to a Facebook post from the team behind the poker run, which is presented by Jape Services, the event had to be moved because the Lanier Islands Legacy Lodge—the primary hotel participants stay at being that it’s a short golf cart ride to the docks and events—didn’t have enough availability earlier in September for the already high registration of out-of-town boaters.

Besides the obvious aspects of being able to accommodate more people and being another weekend removed from the lake’s “busy season,” the organizers pointed out another positive about the move.

“The new date, September 14-17, is going to allow us not to interfere with Lake Cumberland Poker Run,” a Facebook post stated, admitting that many people were unhappy with the dates that conflicted with the popular Kentucky event. “For the committed poker run boaters, you can now hit Cumberland (Sept. 8-10), Lanier (Sept. 14-17) and the Florida Powerboat Club’s Emerald Coast Poker Run (Sept. 21-24).”

Organizers reiterated that the 2023 event is going to be much improved, including a gathering at a local restaurant to kick off the fun on Thursday.

“The date change is good news—it’s going to make the event better for the boaters, the vendors and everyone else involved,” said Sheridan Bazemore, who became president of Lanier Partners of North Georgia, the nonprofit fundraising group behind the Pirates of Lanier Charity Poker Run, in January. “We had an overwhelming amount of people from out of town and we were forced to accommodate our sponsors and committed participants. The good news is that registration is open and sponsorships opportunities are still available.”

Between the Cheeseburger in Paradise lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. coupled with an all-day vendor village and Captain’s meeting/party at Grand Hall on Friday to Saturday’s poker run and evening Casino Night awards party, Bazemore said the event has something exciting for every participant.

She also said that if anyone has any questions or is looking for sponsorship information to contact her via email at [email protected]
