Outerlimits Completes Eight-Seat Open-Cockpit SC 46 Catamaran

Just a few days ago, Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats gave go-fast boating fans a quick look at its first SC 37 catamaran with a canopied cockpit. The 37-footer, which is powered by a pair of 500-hp outboard engines from Mercury Racing, is nearly finished and should be ready in plenty of time for the boating season in the owners’ home-state of Michigan.

The latest SC 46 catamaran from Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats hit the water for the first time this week.

Now the Bristol, R.I., company is unveiling an eight-seat, open-cockpit SC 46 catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing 1550/1350 engines. The cat is ready for delivery to its New England-based owner.

It is the first 46-footer to be built with new dedicated open-cockpit deck tooling designed and built in house at the Bristol, R.I., company.

“We tried to really incorporate a lot of style and design into the new deck and cockpit,” Dan Kleitz, the general manager of Outerlimits, explained. “I think our team exceeded all expectations in all categories setting a new standard for inboard catamarans.

The 46-footer’s helm station lacks for nothing.

“We brought back a lot of billet accents throughout the inside and outside of the catamaran,” he added.

The carbon-fiber, post-cured SC 46 weighs 11,800 pounds dry. It was painted by Wes Jones Design Works using a graphics scheme created by Stephen Miles Design. Kutting Edge Interiors of O’Fallon, Mo., handled the catamaran’s cockpit Cool Touch vinyl-upholstered seating and interior padding. Color-matched Seadek flooring covers the cockpit sole.

MYCO Custom Trailers built the boat’s painted-aluminum transportation platform.

Kutting Edge Interiors handled the cockpit softscape.

Helm station features include three Garmin GPS monitors, a pair of Mercury VesselView screens and a JL Audio sound system with speakers throughout the cockpit.

And there’s another new SC 46 catamaran with the same eight-seat, open-cockpit configuration on its way back from being painted at Stephen Miles Design to Outerlimits for rigging.

A pair of dual-calibration turbocharged engines powers the 46-footer.

“I urge anyone in the market for a large inboard catamaran to come check out this new SC46,” Kleitz said. “Besides the striking looks, the ride sells it every time.”

The 46-footer is the first to be completed with new deck tooling from the Bristol, R.I., custom catamaran and V-bottom builder.
