Nor-Tech At 35—The Full Monte At 100-MPH

Nor-Tech didn’t build or market its Monte Carlo series of elegant, Euro-style dayboats as speed machines when it kicked off the line with a 42-footer in 2013. The Cape Coral, Fla.-headquartered company already had catamarans and closed-deck V-bottoms fitting that description. The Monte Carlos series was something different.

In 2013 this 420 Monte Carlo dayboat reached 100 mph during a test session with Nor-Tech team.
But that didn’t mean the company never built a fast one. Powered by a pair of 700-hp supercharged engines from Mercury Racing, a 2013 model-year 420 Monte Carlo. The boat, which as the property of Texans Cody and Veronica Lovins, reached 100 mph during a test-session in Southwest Florida.
“Not a lot faster out of the hole than the same boat with twin Mercury Racing 565 engines—a more popular engine package along with Yanmar 370 diesels—the 700-hp powered model gained an additional 20 mph on the top end,” Jason Johnson, the co-publisher of Speedonthewater.com, wrote at the time.

The 42-footer came alive with 1,400 hp under the hatch.
Though Nor-Tech’s focus shifting to performance-oriented center consoles when it introduced the 420 Monte Carlo, which was based on the 390 Sport center console, remains in the boat-builder’s product line. The company even equipped one with twin 1,100-hp Mercury Racing engines.
For the record, the boat had no problem topping 100 mph.
