New Outerlimits SC 46 Catamaran Finds A Great Home

Shelby Smith of Jonesboro, Ark., still bleeds MTI go-fast boat blood. His purchase this week of a 2026 Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats SC 46 catamaran from Performance Boat Center in Osage Beach, Mo., does not change his affinity for the MTI brand one bit. Smith has owned four MTI models to date, and currently has a 440X catamaran and a 50-foot center console from the Wentzville, Mo., company.

Smith said he had wanted a “big-power inboard catamaran” for some time. Three weeks ago, he took at demo ride with Performance Boat Center’s Myrick Coil after he came across a listing for the Mercury Racing 1550/1350 engine-equipped 46-footer on the MTI, Performance Powerboats and Sunsation Boats website.

“While a new MTI 482 would be my first choice, I figured I should at least check it out,” Smith explained. “I did a demo with Myrick and much more impressed with the Outerlimits than I expected to be.”

Still, he wasn’t convinced it was the right time for a new purchase.

“I went home, thought it over and decided I didn’t need a third boat,” he continued. “About a week later, (Performance Boat Center co-owner) Brett Manire called and asked me what I what I was going to do. I said I didn’t need another boat right now. Long story short, he talked me into making an offer.”

Smith and Manire negotiated for a week before striking a deal. Now Smith is the self-described “happy owner” of a new Outerlimits SC 46 catamaran that was initially built for a buyer in the Northeast.

Said Smith, “It will scratch my big-power boat itch until I can scrounge enough money together to have (MTI principal) Randy Scism build me a 482 to match my 440X.”
