In a multi-year agreement starting with the Union Internationale Motonautique Class 1 2023 season, Monster Energy will be the title sponsor of the M CON Racing team. The new team, which currently has a Skater Powerboats 438 under construction at the Douglas, Mich., facility, will run as the Monster Energy M CON Racing team. The partnership was announced during a Powerboat P1/P1 Offshore press conference this afternoon in Key West, Fla.

“We love racing, power and larger-than-life opportunities here at Monster Energy and we were immediately captivated by what we all saw,” said Dave Gowland, Monster Energy vice president of motorsports, in a press release. “We’re always all-in here at Monster and we’re enthused to sponsor M CON in the Class 1 race series.”

Based in Kansas, the M CON Racing team of owner/driver Tyler Miller and throttleman Myrick Coil will share the cockpit of the 43-footer, which will be powered by dual Class 1-spec, Mercury Racing 1100 Comp engines. It will be the first Class 1 boat completely built to meet the current UIM safety and construction standards.

Miller and Coil are currently in Key West prepping for the first Super Cat-class race of the Race World Offshore-produced American Power Boat Association/Union Internationale Motonautique Offshore World Championships.

“We decided earlier this year to take the next leap in the sport by joining Class 1 in 2023 because of our pure passion to race in the premier class,” said Miller, who also plans to continue to field his Super Cat-class M CON Skater 388 cat next season. “We hope to be on the water with our new Skater by early April for testing at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri and our aim is quite simply to get on the podium as often as possible next season.

“It’s a big deal for us and for offshore racing that Monster Energy is coming onboard and we want to put on a great show for the fans and our new sponsor,” he added.

Tyler Miller, left, and Myrick Coil are eager to take on their fellow Class 1 competitors.

The arrangement comes as great news to Powerboat P1/P1 Offshore as the United Kingdom-based organization has been rebuilding Class 1 since 2019.

M CON Racing is one of the most professionally run teams in offshore racing and, with the backing of Skater Powerboats and Monster Energy, they are sure to be a major force in UIM Class 1 next year,” said Azam Rangoonwala, chief executive officer of Powerboat P1. “The decision by Monster Energy to sponsor a team in the series is testament to our ambition to return the world championship to the pinnacle of powerboat racing.”
