Mod V Class In For Full APBA Series And Race World Offshore Key West Worlds

With the exception of teams not ready to compete and those under the XINSURANCE sponsorship banner, the Mod V class will begin its season next weekend at Thunder On Cocoa Beach in Cocoa Beach, Fla. What’s more, the Mod V team owners, who discussed the current issues facing the sport and voted on a revised schedule Wednesday evening, will stick with the five-race American Power Boat Association/Powerboat P1-produced national-points series of races this season.

The group also plans to compete in the three-race Race World Offshore Key West World Championships, November 3-10. The event will be sanctioned by the new World Powerboat Racing Association launched by event-producers Race World Offshore and Professional Racing Offshore.

“The majority of the teams are going to run the five-race national APBA series,” said Stephen Kildahl of the Scott Free Racing/Boatfloater.com team. “We should have at least six boats in Cocoa Beach. “Our team and a few of the others will do a few non-APBA races—we’re doing the race at the Lake of the Ozarks, where our main sponsor is located, and Michigan City.

“We’re going to the Ozarks race with an open mind,” he added.

When the Mod V owners group announced its own 2025 schedule on December 19, the August 29-31 Chicago Grand Prix was on the roster. Englewood Beach Waterfest, now set for October 10-12, was not then an APBA-sanctioned event, much less a national series contest. The Englewood Beach organizers announced the sanction news on February 1, and now the Southwest Florida race is on the Mod V owners-group schedule and the inaugural Chicago event is not.

Thanks its generous semi-anonymous benefactor the Mod V group will once again compete for $100,000 purse this season.

Said Stephen Kildahl, “We are going to the Lake of the Ozarks with an open mind.”
