High-performance marine propulsion giant Mercury Racing of Fond du Lac, Wis., and United Kingdom-based Powerboat P1, which is producing the 10-race Union Internationale Motonautique Class 1 World Championship Series, have added two years to their existing partnership deal. The news was announced in a Powerboat P1 press release this morning.

The Mercury Racing 1100 Competition engine is the “Official Power” of the UIM Class 1 circuit. As part of the expanded dealer with Mercury Racing and Powerboat P1, teams that  run the quad-cam four-valve turbocharged 1,100-hp engines will receive—according to the release—on-site technical support through the Mercury Racing Race Support team. Mercury Racing also will be a centerpiece of the P1 Village Fan Zone at the July 3-4 Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix.

The third race in the eight-contest American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series as well as the UIM Class 1 World Championship Series, the Southwest Florida event is being produced by P1 Offshore, Powerboat P1’s offshore racing production arm.

“Our partnership with Mercury Racing began in 2017 and has expanded each year with new areas of collaboration and mutual business development,” said Azam Rangoonwala, the chief executive officer of Powerboat P1, in the release. “Partnering with the world’s leading marine engine manufacturer adds significant value to our business and this is another great step we’re taking together to build upon an already successful relationship.”

Stuart Halley, the general manager of Mercury Racing, said the ongoing partnership is part of the company’s race-bred culture and legacy.

“Mercury Racing was born out of competition racing,” shared Stuart Halley, general manager for Mercury Racing. “Sponsoring Powerboat P1 demonstrates our continued commitment to high horsepower and high performance. We’re looking forward to our Race Support Team being on site and seeing everyone at the P1 Village.”
