While conducting a fish dealer inspection on Oct. 17 in New Bedford, officers from the Massachusetts Environmental Police discovered a dealer to be in possession of a live black sea bass out of season and 43 undersized live tautog.
The fish were alleged to have been delivered by two separate fishermen over the course of two days. Dealer records provided the names of both fishermen.
While investigating the violation, one of the fishermen arrived at the dealer to sell additional live tautog. Officers inspected the catch and found him to be in possession of 3 fish under the legal size limit of 16 inches.
All parties involved were issued civil citations for the violations. The undersized live fish were returned to the waters of Buzzards Bay.
