Lake Cumberland Thunder Run Opens Registration

Armed with new dates in an effort to minimize spring rain-driven debris in the water, the 17th annual Lake Cumberland Thunder Run in Kentucky opened registration this afternoon. The event is set for June 27-29 and will once again be based out of State Dock Marina in Jamestown.

With this year’s later dates designed to help minimize debris in the water, the Lake Cumberland Thunder Run organizers are expecting a stronger-than-usual turnout. Photo by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

Last year, the event attracted 60 boats despite significant debris in the lake.

“I honestly don’t know how many boats to expect,” said Justin Lucas, who co-organizes the event with his longtime friends Dan and Julie Weiss. “We are planning for a better turn-out based on the date change.

“I am more excited about it than I’ve been in the past few years,” he added.

Would-be participants can register via the event’s website.
