Kuttawa Cannonball Run Closes Online Registration At 130 Boats

In an effort to streamline their event-weekend workload so they can focus on creating a better experience for participants, the organizers of the Kuttawa Cannonball Run, set a hard stop for online sign-ups. As announced by the group, online registration for the June 2-3 event in Old Kuttawa, Ky., closed two days ago at midnight. At that time, registration stood at 109 boats.

With online registration shut down last Sunday with 130 boats and on-site registration open through the morning of the event, the Kuttawa Cannonball Run is on track to have another strong turnout. Photo by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

Now, it’s up to 130 entries. And the organizers are expecting more participants to register on site at Kuttawa Harbor, the host venue for the seventh annual event.

“We will have 30 or participants sign up on the day of the event,” said Jeff Hoefling, who shares organizing duties with Terry Martin and Stephen Miles.

In 2021, the 100-plus-mile run on Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake, which raises money for local charities in the area, saw a record-setting 180 entries. Last year, it attracted 130 boats.

“Now, it’s up to 130-plus boats and 400 or so participants to show up and put on the best poker run that we’ve seen,” said Martin. “Will we be a little overwhelmed? Very likely. Will we smile? As much as possible. But at the end of the weekend, it’s all about the charities and we work tirelessly to ensure we can produce for them. That’s why we’re trying to get back our incredible auctioneer, Nolan Ferris from Upstate New York. We’re trying to get him back for the auction again this year and he really wants to come but he does have some prior engagements, so we’ll see.

Renowned powerboat paint-man Stephen Miles has created yet another speedonthewater.com-themed shuffle board for the Saturday night charity auction at Kuttawa Harbor.

“At this point, we’ve done about all of the prep work that can be done,” he added. “Marinas are ready, vendors are ready and—we hope—Mother Nature is ready.”
