Inside The SOTW Mag 2022 Interview Issue—Chris And Quinn LaMorte

With their first baby—a boy—due in early November, New Jersey’s Chris and Quinn LaMorte needed to make some extra space. So in March they sold their outboard-powered 28-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran. They still have a 36-footer from the Douglas, Mich., custom boat builder and have no plans to get rid of it.

OK, the boat sale didn’t have that much to do with their growing family and, go figure, Quinn already has notions of a center console in the future. Performance boating is part of their fabric and its community is part of their extended family. Need proof? On December 31, they will be married seven years and they plan to celebrate that milestone the same way they celebrated their honeymoon. They’ll head to Southwest Florida and run their 36-footer in the annual

Joey Gratton New Year’s Day Memorial Fun.

HOW DID YOU MEET?

Quinn: Oh my god (laughs), it was at a friend’s New Year’s Eve party. I was the only single girl there and Chris was the only single guy.

WAS THERE AN INSTANT ATTRACTION?

Quinn: (Laughs again) No. Absolutely not. I was wearing huge high heels and he was a lot shorter than I am. And I was like, “This isn’t going to work.” But he stalked me on Facebook.

Chris: That did not happen.
