Offshore powerboat racers are, for the most part, a family-oriented lot. For proof, just stroll the pits at any race and you’ll see kids—lots of them in fact— hanging around the various team trailers and raceboats owned by their parents. Couples with children tend to bring them to races, and the pits become an extended family village.

When it comes to offshore racing, or pleasure boating, for Vinnie and Danielle Diorio and Reese and Sara Langheim, everyone in their family plays an important role. Photos by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

“I love our offshore racing family we see at every race,” said Danielle Diorio, the wife of Super Cat-class racer Vinnie Diorio of the SV Offshore team. “We have really created a great connection.”

The Diorios, who live in Wisconsin, have three children: 10-year-old Fran, nine-year- old Charlee and four-year-old Vincenzo. All three are with their parents at every race.

“Our ‘vacations’ are pretty much races,” Vinnie Diorio said, then laughed. “We don’t go anywhere else.”
