Image Of The Week: The Young Lions Of Offshore Racing

When 22-year-old Nick Imprescia, the son of legendary offshore racing throttleman Joey Imprescia whose career spanned the 1980s and 1990s, started competing in the sport he often heard he “had big shoes to fill.” Though Imprescia, who earned this first Mod V-class world title last November in the Race World Offshore Championships in Key West, Fla., rightly adores and idolizes his father, he always bristled at that comment.

“I have to create my own footsteps,” he told Brit Lilly, a multi-time Stock V-class racer during a shoot for an upcoming Speed On The Water/Scrapyard Media-produce video series dubbed “Water Street Confidential” and backed by Mercury Racing. “That is what my father taught me.”

The son of offshore racing great Art Lilly, Lilly chuckled.

“I always wanted to be exactly like my father in offshore racing,” said the 36-year-old racer. “That was my goal. He was my idol and I wanted to be just like him.”

But while their famous fathers inspired them in different ways, Imprescia and Lilly are destined to reach the pinnacle of the sport. Imprescia, who works at Shaun Torrente Racing in Southwest Florida has big plans for the 2023 season, though he isn’t ready to reveal them when he sat alongside Lilly last month in Fond du Lac, Wis.

The owner of Maryland-based Lilly Sport Boats, Lilly plans to continue competing in the Stock V class, while reprising his role as the back-up driver for the Class 1 Huski Chocolate team.

Imprescia and Lilly aren’t just poised for success. Both are poised, as viewers will learn from the video conversation when the final cut is complete, period. Get ready to be blown away.
