A new paring for the 2022 offshore racing season, rookie throttleman Alex Pratt and veteran driver Miles Jennings cannot catch a break, a common euphemism for “luck” as the Class 1 cockpit duo has already seen plenty of breakage. The team saw the starboard-side transom of its 47-foot Victory catamaran mostly disintegrate during practice for the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix, the second of eight races in the Union International Motonautique Class 1 series being produced by P1 Offshore.

And thanks to the rigging efforts of Performance Boat Center in Osage Beach, Mo., the team’s new 45-foot MTI catamaran—the former Performance Boat Center team Super Cat now dubbed Good Boy Vodka/XINSURANCE for its brand co-sponsorship—was ready in time for yesterday’s Great Lakes Grand Prix in Michigan City, Ind.

Now, courtesy of a wicked stuff on Lake Michigan, the team has a bit more repair work to do. The solo-boat incident left the 45-footer with significant damage on its starboard side and bustle.

The next Class 1 contest is the St. Petersburg Grand Prix, September 2-4, and the boat should be back in action for that race. With any luck—and Pratt and Jennings could use some—it will be the last repair the tenacious cockpit duo has to deal with this season.
