Image Of The Week: A Poker Run Organizer’s Boatload Of Suffering
I don’t know about you, but I would not enjoy doing Stu Jones’ job. The eye-bleeding minutia of organizing poker runs, from setting up meals and securing dockage and hotel-room blocks to ordering shirts and trophies would make me crazy. As would the larger responsibilities of securing safety assets, dealing with insurance and acquiring permits.

And then there is constantly being “on” as the Florida Powerboat Club head has to be in front of generally awesome and gracious adults who on rare but not totally unheard of occasion can morph into spoiled kids with behavioral issues. All that fun and more comes with working in the hospitality industry.
Still, there are perks.
Jones’ Pompano Beach, Fla., headquarters is really his satellite office as his main office is the Florida Keys. The guy can’t even remember, for example, how many times he’s been to Key Largo, Marathon and Key West by boat, most recently in his Flight 1130 Cigarette. And his event staff, as you can see from the photo above captured during last weekend’s Orange Beach Poker Run in Alabama, isn’t horrible to be around.
Next up for Jones and the club are a couple of small-group runs to the Bahamas, followed his own poker-run tour with his lovely bride, Jackie. In September, he’ll return to event-producer/impresario mode with the Emerald Coast Poker Run ahead of November’s Florida Powerboat Club grand finale, the Key West Poker Run.
