Holy Cow!!! MTI 36 Catamaran Finds A New Home

Longtime participants in this month’s 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run will notice something different about Holy Cow!!!, a 36-foot MTI catamaran that has been something of a fixture at the Clayton, N.Y., event since it began in 2017. The boat’s inspired Visual Imagination paintjob hasn’t changed, nor has the roar from its twin Mercury Racing 700 SCi engines or the audio perfection of its truly custom sound system.

Now the property of Upstate New York’s Shawn Burke, Holy Cow!!! will be in this month’s 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run fleet. Photo by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.
But it will have a new driver and owner behind the wheel. Shawn Burke of Massena, N.Y., has purchased the boat from original owner Kelly O’Hara.
“I didn’t need to sell Holy Cow!!! and I wasn’t looking to sell it,” explained O’Hara, who recently unveiled an MTI 40 R/P catamaran he bought from powerboat wheeler-dealer Ron Szolack in Missouri. “But Shawn is a longtime friend and he loves the boat. He always told me, ‘Please call me first if you ever want to sell it.
“He called me again after BRP Marine Custom finished updating the 40,” he continued. “So I finally decided to sell. But it wasn’t easy watching it go out the door.”
Though Burke is an experienced performance-boat owner, the 36-footer is his first catamaran. His most recent boat—since sold—was a Fountain 42 Lighting V-bottom powered by Mercury Racing 1075 engines.
“I had been back and forth with Kelly on this for several year, but I really didn’t think he would sell it,” Burke recalled. “But when he started his new MTI project, I started talking about it with him again.”

The 36-footer also will be displayed at the Thursday evening 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run street party. Photo from the 2024 event by Jeff Helmkamp copyright Helmkamp Photos.
Friends and family of O’Hara, who also co-owns an impeccably kept DCB Performance Marine M37R catamaran with Indiana’s Kiran Pinisetti, know him as the most meticulous boat-owner in their circle. He found a kindred spirit in the new owner, who described himself as “fussy as Kelly is” when it comes to boat care and maintenance.
“I am very, very meticulous,” said Burke, who has participated in every 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run to date and will run with two friend his daughter this year. “It went to a good home, that is for sure. It will never see saltwater.

And then there was one.
“I have had it out once so far—Kelly and I took it out for run and I loved it,” he added.
Burke plans to do one more event this summer, the August 15-16 Lake Champlain Poker Run in Burlington, Vt. But the fast-approaching 1,000 Islands affair he will enjoy with his daughter and two friends now has his complete attention. To that end, he’s having the catamaran ceramic-coated next week in advance of the event.
“I just want to have it as pretty as it can be,” he explained. “It’s already beautiful.”
Burke paused, then added, “I am excited about it, that’s for sure.”
