Gallery Of The Week: Sunsations Storm Lake Cumberland

With stops open for two days during the wildly popular Lake Cumberland Poker Run hosted by State Dock Marina in Jamestown, Ky., the fun continues today as the go-fast boaters who traveled from as far away as California, Florida, Louisiana, Michigan and beyond return to the lake as well as the always-impressive raft-up at Harmon Creek. And while the weather may not be as welcoming as it was on Friday with showers possible throughout the day, participants are likely to have a great time on and off the water.

It was clear based on the images taken by Speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden, the event’s official photographer, that everyone at the lake on Friday had a great time—especially the many Sunsation Powerboats owners in the event.

Of course there were a lot of other brands represented, such as Baja Marine, Cigarette Racing Team, DCB Performance Boats, Donzi Marine, Eliminator Boats, Fountain Powerboats, MTI, Mystic Powerboats, Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats, Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats, Skater Powerboats and more, but the wide-ranging group of sportboats and center consoles built by the Algonac, Mich., company that is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year (read the story) was quite apparent as you can see in the gallery below.

Thanks to a dedicated base of owners who call Lake Cumberland home and owners who only come to the lake once a year, not to mention a consistent showing of support from the company itself—Sunsation has been a longtime sponsor of the poker run and the event is a favorite of Joe Schaldenbrand (right, photo courtesy Ryan Wenk), one of the brand’s owners—Sunsation’s presence at the State Dock gathering never goes unnoticed.

In fact, in 2021, it was Western Kentucky performance boaters Larry and Teesa Lilly’s goggle-wearing poodle, Dutch, that stole the show during the raft-ups and at the docks.

This year, Schaldenbrand and his son, Jeremy, Sunsation’s logistics coordinator, are enjoying the event with the company’s rigging supervisor, Aaron Treppa, and sales manager, Ryan Wenk. Sunsation’s leading dealer, Missouri’s Performance Boat Center, which also sells MTI, Performance Powerboats and Velocity Boats models, is on hand for the event as well.

Editor’s note: Speedonthewater.com will follow up with Joe Schaldenbrand and many other poker run participants today and tomorrow to provide a full recap of the 16th annual event, including more of Boden’s images, on Monday.
