Fraternal-Twins Delivered At Performance Boat Center Spring Fun Run

No matter what the weather or water did yesterday during the Lake of the Ozarks—and for the record both were on their best behavior—the Performance Boat Center Spring Fun Run was going to be unforgettable for repeat customers Davey and Tina Tharp. It was a sure thing and they knew it, as did the entire team at the Osage Beach, Mo., dealership.

Taking delivery of a new color-matched Performance Powerboats P360 catamaran and a Sunsation Boats 32 CCX center console didn’t just guarantee the South Carolina couple would have a memorable day on the Missouri waterway. It foreshadowed many more to come on their home-waters of Lake Hartwell.

For the Tharps, the idea of owning matching boats was born last summer while they were using their existing and then-new blue Sunsation 32 CCX.

A casual chat on the led the Tharps to build their dream-boats. Photo by Matt Trulio/Speedonthewater.com.

“We were out on the water and my husband was like, ‘How cool would it be to have matching boats?’” Tina recalled, then laughed. “And I said, ‘That’s really extra but if that’s you want to do let’s do it.’”

She had one condition. “We had to have a 32 Sunsation,” she said. “I love that boat.”

The couple already had a P360 cat under construction. So Davey Tharp ran the idea by Performance Boat Center sales associate Cyler (pronounced Kyler) Jackson.

Said Davey Johnson, “I can’t tell the colors apart.”

“Cyler told me, ‘Oh, we can make that happen,” Tharp said, then laughed. “He said, ‘We can sell your 32 and you will recoup the biggest part of it.’

“Next thing I know I know we are building new Sunsation to match the cat,” he added, then laughed.

Though the P360 was painted in house at Performance Boat Center, Kustom Colors of Marion, Ohio, painted the 32 CCX.

“I can’t tell the colors apart—they look like they were painted by the same people,” Tharp said.

His wife described their collaboration with Performance Boat Center and Sunsation Boats during the build process as “phenomenal.”

Jackson took the point on the dealership side. Sunsation’s Ryan Wenk and Aaron Treppa led the Sunsation team

Having already owned a 32-footer, Tina Tharp new exactly what she wanted and a few special additions, such as clips to hold wet lines, in mind.

“They all went above and beyond,” she said. “The communication was incredible.”

The end-to-end beauties were picture-perfect at the Performance Boat Center docks.

With two boats on the water yesterday, the Tharps enlisted Jackson to drive the center console. Davey piloted the catamaran.

But before the departed their on the water, Tina had gave her husband an unexpected gift.

“I have a surprise for you,” she said. “You can go pick out whatever pair of propellers you want. They’re already paid for.”

The couple hugged. Words were unnecessary.

“You know, as a child, you always have a dream,” said Tina. “Mine was to have a Maserati. Davey’s dream was to have a boat on a sideways trailer. When we saw the cat on the sideways trailer, we had to choke back the tears.”

As they just might every time they stare at its fraternal Sunsation twin.
