DCB Shooting For Holiday-Season Opening Of New Facility

Now that the permitting process is complete, DCB Performance Marine can begin moving more aggressively from its current 27,000-square-foot facility in Phoenix to its new 44,000-square-foot facility just a quarter-of-a-mile down the same road. Both structures/properties are owned by DCB managing partners Craig and Kim Hargreaves.

“Permitting took three months longer than expected, but it had to be done the right way and now we are full steam ahead with the move,” Tony Chiaramonte, the custom high-performance catamaran company’s vice-president, explained. “When we’re completely moved, it is going to make everything so much better. So we are committed, full speed ahead.”
Summer is a less-than-ideal time, of course, for such a significant relocation, in Arizona. But the DCB team is motivated as the new facility will house three spray booths under the same roof as all other manufacturing departments. That change will provide an enormous boost in production efficiency.
Though DCB’s Arizona current digs are beyond compare to those of the brand’s original Southern California location, boats under construction still have to move from inside the factory to a spray booth outside the factory and then back inside the plant when gelcoat work is completed. In the new plant, which is rectangular, boats will flow from lamination to gelcoat and then to the rigging and interior departments—all under the same roof.
“Plus, even though we still have to move everything from our current space to the new one, at least we’re going just a quarter mile instead of all the way from El Cajon (Calif.) to Phoenix,” he added in reference to the previous year’s move its original location to its current headquarters, then chuckled. “We can chip away it.
In another move toward greater efficiency, one of the spray booths will be dedicated to small parts while the other two will be for completed hulls and decks.
The new space is coming along nicely.
“That booth also happens to be taller than the other two, just in case we decided to build something taller,” Chiaramonte said, but declined to elaborate further. “We’re also putting in taller doors.
“The epoxy floor just got done Friday and it’s awesome,” he added. “The whole place is going to be awesome, top-notch as always.”
Chiaramonte said the plan is to be fully moved in “by Christmas time.” Meanwhile, DCB has to keep up with current production. And the company is flush with orders for its full-tunnel catamarans, the newest of which is a 35-footer in the early stages of production.
Said Chiaramonte, “We have seven or eight orders for the new M45 cat alone right now. We are moving.”
