For the close-knit family of DCB Performance Boats catamaran owners around the country, participating in the El Cajon, Calif., company’s annual regatta, which began yesterday with 70 registered boat on Lake Havasu, means a lot. Though the two-day event include lunch runs on the Arizona side of the Colorado River-fed waterway and nighttime parties, the real draw is spending time with other DCB owners who share passion for the brand.

Delivered just in time for the annual DCB Owners Regatta, this M37R Widebody catamaran is the second addition to Shawn and Andrea Reed’s DCB stable.

Among those owners in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., enjoying the event are Shawn and Andrea Reed, who were married in July and have a home in the desert community. On Wednesday, Shawn Reed took delivery of a new DCB M37R Widebody catamaran—hull No. 16 for those keeping count—powered by Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines mounted on Shaun Torrente Racing brackets at the lake. That brings his DCB collection to two catamarans as he also owns a 2015 model-year, M35 Widebody catamaran powered by Mercury Racing 1100 stern-drive engines. Reed purchased the 35-footer three years ago.

“My M35 is for sale, but I really don’t want to sell it if I can afford to keep both of them,” Reed said, then laughed. “I went in the M37R direction to have something that requires a little less maintenance and is little quieter—you can half the stereo system, it’s so quiet. I have the best of both worlds right now.”

On Wednesday DCB’s Tony Chiaramonte (right) took Shawn Reed for his first ride in the new 37-footer.

The half-capped, foam-cored carbon fiber 37-footer was laminated with the vacuum-infused resin process. Dubbed Killer Bee for its vibrant yellow-and-black color scheme, it is dressed in DCB’s Phase III gelcoat graphics, and its six-seat interior boasts all-Alcantara upholstery, carpet and Seadek flooring. Additional niceties include a Stage IV stereo system with a Fusion head unit and JL Audio amplifiers and speakers, an LED lighting package, a custom-manufactured Marine Concepts cover and more.

Per the owners’ specifications, the company laid out the helm and co-pilot’s stations with a pair of nine-inch Simrad touch-screen monitors and a 22-inch Garmin GPS unit in the center of the dash, which is equipped with a ventilation system. Color-matched to the boat’s exterior, helm station controls include an Isotta steering wheel hydro-dipped in a carbon-fiber pattern with black Alcantara grips and yellow stitching and yellow-and-black Mercury Racing digital throttles and shifters.

The Reed’s outboard-powered M37R build No. 16 for the Southern California company.

A triple-axle MYCO tilt trailer with Adrenaline Trailer upgrades including a front courtesy ladder, LED loading and running light packages, an electric tongue jack, perforated mesh decking and is being completed for the cat.

Reed said he’ll pilot his 35-footer in today’s up-river lunch run from the London Bridge Resort and one of his friends will run the M37R.

The couple will keep 37-footer in Defiance, Mo., where they recently purchased a second home. The 35-footer will remain in Lake Havasu City.

Married in July, Shawn and Andrea Reed posed on his DCB M35 catamaran after their wedding at the London Bridge Resort.

“I married a girl from Missouri and I don’t like coming to Havasu when its 115 degrees,” he explained. “So we’ll probably spend May through September going to the Lake of the Ozarks.”

“The fit and finish is just awesome and the guys at DCB—they treat you really well,” he added, then chuckled again. “They’re pretty good that way.”
