In the News: Cigarette Faithful Returning To Performance Boat Center Owners Rendezvous

For the past three years, Southern California-based Cigarette Racing Team devotee Dan Ellis has attended the Performance Boat Center Cigarette Owners Rendezvous on the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri without a boat of his own. That’s how much Ellis, who acquired an immaculate 2010 model-year Cigarette 42X Lip-Ship Edition late last year, loves the legendary brand.

Started as an event to promote an iconic brand, the Performance Boat Center Cigarette Owners Rendezvous has taken on a life of its own. Photos from the 2021 event by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

Now he’s looking forward to the event, which is set for June 15-16 and based out of the multi-brand dealership based in Osage Beach, Mo., more than ever.

“To say I am excited is an understatement,” said Ellis, whose ran the 42-footer last November in the Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run shortly after taking delivery.”

Performance Boat Center launched the event eight years ago to promote the Cigarette brand. The happening grew every year, and for past three years it has attracted more than 100 boats. Thanks to the Cigarette faithful from around the country, the event took on a life of its own—so much so that Performance Boat Center is producing the rendezvous this year despite that the dealership no longer carries the Cigarette line.

“We will have 100 boats again this year, I promise,” said Brett Manire, who co-owns Performance Boat Center with Mark Waddington.

In addition to Cigarette owners who come from out of town, the Lake of the Ozarks has a healthy local contingent of owners such as Tyler and Lindsey Miller, who have a 2022 model-year Cigarette 42 Auroris. Unless their daughter, Bentlee, has a softball game they will be there.

“The Cigarette Rendezvous has always been a very well-organized, smooth-running event thanks to the efforts of Performance Boat Center and Redhead Lakeside Grill staff,” said Tyler Miller, who with his Super Cat-class M CON offshore racing teammate Myrick Coil of Performance Boat Center claimed first place in last weekend’s Lake Race. “Our kids love the rendezvous as well. When we are able to boat not only on our home lake but boat with amazing people, amazing machines and our family it keeps us coming back year after year.”
