The New England boating world is mourning the loss of Louis “Capt. Lou” Gainor, who died on August 1. He was 73.
Gainor was the longtime host of Nautical Talk Radio, which aired weekly for 28 years on WATD-FM. The show covered all facets of boating and often fishing, and Gainor, often toting a microphone for on-the-scene interviews, was a familiar face at local boat shows and fishing events.

A native of Quincy, MA, Gainor studied at Northeastern and Bentley before launching a career as a commercial real estate broker. However, it was his passion for boating that led him to start his weekly radio show on WATD in the early 1990’s.
Gainor is survived by his by his wife of 51 yrs Ellen (Chernov), his son, Brad, his niece, Linda Chernov, and his dog, Gilligan.
