Buelow Replacing Drees As Mercury Marine President

Buelow Replacing Drees As Mercury Marine President

Though the Miami International Boat Show is far from new to John Buelow, the 19-year Mercury Marine veteran will tackle the February 15-19 event in a new role. Buelow, who most recently was the company’s vice-president of Global Operations, has been appointed president/executive vice-president of the Fond du Lac, Wis., marine propulsion and accessories giant.

The 2023 Miami International Boat Show will be John Buelow’s first as the president of Mercury Marine.

Buelow is replacing outgoing Mercury Marine president Chris Drees.

“John is an established leader with close to 20 years of experience at Brunswick in a number of global leadership roles and I am confident that he will continue Mercury’s momentum and sustained growth,” said David Foulkes, the chief executive officer of Mercury Marine parent company Brunswick Corporation in a press release this morning.  “John’s promotion is indicative of the talent and experience we have in our management ranks across the entire Company and our continued focus on succession planning.”

Buelow began his career at Mercury Marine in 2004, according to the release. During his  first six years at the company, he held positions in finance including vice-president and chief financial officer of Brunswick Marine in EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) and Asia-Pacific. From 2010 until 2023, his leadership roles at Mercury’s global headquarters in Fond du Lac included vice-president of Business Development, vice-president and general manager of Mercury castings, vice-president of Management and Strategic Planning and—most recently—vice president of Global Operations.

Flanked by speedonthewater.com publishers Matt Trulio and Jason Johnson, Mercury Racing general manager Stuart Halley and then Mercury Marine president Chris Drees paused for a photo opportunity during the 2022 Race World Offshore World Championships in Key West, Fla.

According to the release, Drees has departed his role to pursue opportunities outside the marine industry.

“I also want to thank Chris Drees for his leadership and many contributions over his 24 years at Mercury and Brunswick,” said Foulkes. “Chris led Mercury through a number of significant milestones during his career and has been an outstanding partner during my time as chief executive officer.  On behalf of Mercury and Brunswick, I wish Chris and his family the very best in their future endeavors.”
