With a trio of Aqua-X personal watercraft races starting at 8:15 a.m., offshore raceboat testing and practice from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Class 1 pole-position qualifying (see tomorrow’s story on speedonthewater.com) on the six-mile racecourse from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 3 was already set to be an action-packed day for the 37th annual Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix in Southwest, Fla. And nonstop action was among the goals for Powerboat P1/P1 Offshore, which is in its second year of producing the popular event.

But with the Bracket 500, 600 and 700 classes moved to Saturday from their original Sunday slot, fans catching the action in person from Lido Beach or live on the P1 Offshore Facebook page will have even more to enjoy.

Saturday’s Bracket-class races will begin at 2:15 p.m.

The organizers announced the schedule move to the racers in an email earlier today. Reached this afternoon, Cole McGowan of Powerboat P1/P1 Offshore explained the change.

“In consideration of a tight schedule on Sunday with several classes racing, logistics and scattered afternoon thunderstorms in the forecast, three classes were moved to Saturday in order to help move Sunday’s racing forward,” he said.
